As we mark three decades of design, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our clients, collaborators, and friends. Your trust and inspiration have shaped our journey. This milestone isn’t just about time passed, it’s about the people who’ve made it meaningful. Thank you for being part of our story.
We wanted to share more about the man behind the vision as we celebrate 30 years of creating bespoke homes. From fashion and retail to residential design, Andrew’s journey has taken him across continents and creative disciplines. His story and the influences that shape his work, are at the heart of everything we do at Hodgkinson Design.
Andrew’s design path has been anything but conventional, beginning in a grand home on Victoria Island, Lagos, and weaving through high fashion in Paris and Oslo, a ski lodge in Austria, and now a stately home in Madrid. Today, he channels this global perspective into crafting exceptional London homes, leading a talented multidisciplinary team of architects and designers who bring bespoke visions to life.
Over the years, Andrew has worked across a broad range of sectors in the UK. His portfolio spans luxury fashion (Karl Lagerfeld, Krizia, Yves Saint Laurent, Nicole Farhi, Reiss), beauty (Space NK, Shu Uemura), hospitality (Grand Metropolitan’s restaurants and pubs), as well as large-scale retail and commercial developments including shopping centres and retail parks.
His design influences are as varied as his experience, Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics have long inspired his love of simplicity, natural materials, and craftsmanship (wood being a particular favourite). At the same time, African tribal art remains a powerful creative influence, subtly woven into many of his projects.
“Much of my work in fashion retail was created for short-term impact. Now, I’m drawn to the lasting nature of bespoke homes - spaces that deeply affect how people live and feel. There’s something incredibly meaningful in creating places that endure.”
He notes how today’s private homes often reflect the comfort, luxury, and tech sophistication of boutique hotels. With international travel and online inspiration shaping expectations, homeowners now seek that same level of quality in their personal spaces.
Andrew remains passionate about art, sculpture, birds, and the beauty of the natural world, drawing inspiration from these whenever possible. When the project allows, he loves incorporating organic and artistic elements into the design.
Now, as Hodgkinson Design celebrates more than 30 years in practice, Andrew looks ahead to the next creative chapter: designing homes as individual as the people who live in them, spaces filled with love, character, intelligence, and aspiration, built by a close-knit team that thrives on collaboration.
